I had been asked to pick Patty up and take her to the airport, which I was happy to do! We decided that I would pick her up just a little early and we would get coffee on the way. All went as planned until we drove away from the coffee shop, a few mins later it was like a patch was placed over my right eye. I pulled over and let Patty drive, within 15 mins my eye was back to normal. I had called my PS just to see if that was a reaction from the surgery two weeks before. They called me back and said it wasn't and that I needed to get to the ER. I really didn't think anything of it and told Patty I was just going to go home and rest. She wanted me to call my Dr. back and tell them what I was planning. Once we arrived at the airport Patty looked in my eyes to make sure something wasn't in them, She said they looked normal. No sooner did I drive away from the curb, my right arm went numb. I could still hold my cell phone, but couldn't feel anything. I then called Andrew and we decided to call Ralph to get his opinion. He advised me to call my regular Dr. and get in as soon as I could. I hung up with Ralph and then the right side of my face went numb. (my arm is still numb at this point.) I called Virginia Mason, and that's when I knew something wasn't right, because I couldn't articulate what I needed to say and they kept having to ask if I was still on the line. Now mind you I am still going 60 on the freeway with the boys in the backseat. I knew I had to get them to a friends before I could do anything; so I swung by McDonald's because they hadn't had lunch then I headed to a neighbor's. Once there another neighbor came to pick me up and take me to the ER. Andrew met us at the hospital. Really from there is was endless IVs, blood work, cat scan, xrays, mri's, ultra-sounds, echo cardiogram, blood sugar tests, heart monitor, and I'm sure I'm missing some tests! The neurologist met with me and along with the ER Dr. said it was a "TIA" which for us normal people is a mini stroke. They do not know what caused it, but thankfully there is no damage and now I just get to take aspirin once a day and I know the signs now! I was in from Friday early afternoon to Sunday at 2pm. All in all not the weekend I had in mind nor the Mother's day for that matter!
